Be impacted by God and come back changed - ready to be a WASH advocate!

WHAT IS WASH?

Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) programmes improve sanitation by doing things such as digging wells and building latrines for the village and water filtration systems for private homes.

Samaritan’s Purse works through local partners in the countries developing & delivering sustainable solutions to provide clean water, sanitation and education in hygiene to the local communities.

The relief trip promises to be eye-opening, hugely rewarding, and also a great deal of fun. Returning as advocates for Turn On The Tap water projects, Ron and Barry will never be the same. They will help spread the message of clean water shortages by speaking about the issue wherever they can.

WHY RON & BARRY?

Ron said: “I was stunned by the statistic that on average one child dies every 20 seconds due to water related diseases most of which are preventable. The majority of these deaths are in sub-Saharan Africa, which is where the WASH programme concentrates. Having been an engineer all my life and with Barry having worked for Bournemouth and West Hants Water for over 30 years, we felt God was telling us to go and help. It’s really the least we can do.”

Ron describes why he decided to support Turn On The Tap. “I was privileged enough to hold my granddaughter in my arms within a few hours of her being born. A few days later I bumped into a charity donations collector from Water Aid and was moved to covenant a monthly gift as a ‘thank you’ for the safe arrival of my granddaughter and the knowledge that she would have access to clean water & good sanitation - things we take for granted in the UK.”

“That was nearly 10 years ago and subsequently her father (my eldest son) joined Water Aid about three years ago, giving up a senior position in a large American corporation, He had felt motivated to do something that would help the needy rather than the corporate business, and that really touched me.”
